ABU DHABI --- November 11, 2010 --- The Municipality of Abu Dhabi has circulated an announcement to all government’s sectors in the United Arab Emirates urging all employees to undergo the Arab Certified Professional Accounting (ACPA) training, provided by the Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA), and highly commended the course as a professional training for accounting and auditing.

The Municipality’s announcement stated “in our quest to continuously improve our internal capabilities for long-term growth and development, we are pleased to share with you that 14 colleagues from Accounting Division, including our Acting Executive Director, Mubarak Al Sulaimani, have undergone special ACPA training.”

The statement continued “ACPA is an internationally recognized qualification and we are proud of being the first government entity within Abu Dhabi to have offered and undergone this special qualification. The course is an advanced, professional training mainly for accountancy and auditing but also for other related fields. Its methodology and approach is applied in an array of accounting services provided by any type of industry throughout the Arab world.”

ASCA Chairman Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh commented: “We look forward to qualifying, preparing a generation of well-qualified Arab accountants, and providing them with excellent professional skills so that they can best serve their country and the Arab people.”

The ACPA training course was held for Abu Dhabi Municipality employees in collaboration with the Training and Development Section and was conducted in house, in the aftermath, a ceremony was organized in the presence of HE Mubarak Al Sulaimani, acting executive director-Support Services for the employees who received the ACPA attendance certificate.

The curriculum for the qualification of the Arab professional accountant has been developed to comply with the international curriculum issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in collaboration with a group of consultants from ASCA, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Certified General Accountants Association in Canada (CGA–Canada), European Commission, the Federation International des Experts Compatibles Francophone (FIDEF), the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), the Polish Accounting Standards Board and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), as well as representatives of academic and international accounting firms acting in their personal competence.

The University of Cambridge-International Examination (CIE) validated the “Arab Certified Professional Accountant (ACPA)” Certificate designation after a thorough evaluation and review of the curriculum material of the professional accounting qualification program, related prescribed academic reference books, level of examinations and procedures for preparing, proctoring, and correcting the examinations and ensuring that the level meets the best and highest international standards.

The Arab Society of Certified Accountants (ASCA) headed by its Chairman Mr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh was established on January 12, 1984 as a non-profit professional accounting association in London, UK. It was formally registered in Amman on 24 February, 1994 under the name “The Arab Society of Certified Accountants”. ASCA works on providing the Arab world with Arab accountants with academic and practical qualifications that are at par with established international qualifications. ASCA also keeps pace with economic events, and develops and publishes new financial and business concepts and ideas in order to provide its members and associates with the ability and means to keep pace with developments and innovations in their field and to excel in the professions of accounting and auditing.
